Connecting the North Country

More than 80 community members gathered at Mohawk Falls in Colebrook to identify regional priorities.

2025

JANUARY 2025

Winter Workgroup Gathering

Community members met at Canaan Schools to continue developing those priorities, many of which aligned with the emerging vision for the Recreation Center.

FEBRUARY 2025

Wellness Center Gathering

A community gathering at the Tillotson Center provided more information about the project’s development and possible path forward.

MARCH 2025

Wellness Center 2.0 Brainstorm

Residents gathered at Colebrook School to explore development plans, community needs, and future possibilities.

JUNE 2025

New Board Established

A new Board of Directors was established, marking the transition of organizational leadership and stewardship back to the community. The Recreation Center continued as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and grounds cleanup also began.

JULY 2025

Playground Re-opening

More than 100 people attended a community gathering and ribbon cutting celebrating the reopening of the playground.

JULY - NOVEMBER 2025

Summer Pickle Ball League

A growing pickleball community began using the ice rink, with programming planned to continue in 2026.

SEPTEMBER 2025

Fall Family Fun Day

Families gathered to enjoy the outdoor amenities and reconnect with the space.

SEPTEMBER 2025

Day of Caring

Thirty volunteers worked together to clean and improve the playground and surrounding grounds.

SEPTEMBER 2025

Walking Track Established

A walking track was created around the rink to expand opportunities for accessible outdoor activity.

NOVEMBER 2025

Sliding Hill Established

A community sliding hill was established, with plans for a future tow rope.

JANUARY 2026

Winter Pickle Ball League

Pickleball programming continued indoors at the Canaan Schools gym.

JANUARY - FEBRUARY 2026

Community Sliding Partners

Four sliding parties hosted by local organizations and businesses brought strong community participation to the grounds.

MARCH - JUNE 2026

Snack Shack creation

Local teenagers developed the Snack Shack as a fundraiser supporting the Recreation Center.

JUNE 2026

Spring Family Fun Day

The Spring Family Fun Day brought another strong turnout and demonstrated continuing regional enthusiasm and support.

Moving Forward

The Recreation Center continues to grow through community involvement, local partnerships, volunteer service, programming, and shared planning. Every step reflects the same guiding purpose: creating a central, welcoming place where people throughout the North Country can gather, move, connect, and thrive.
